A happy musician playing outside one of the grottoes near Dunhuang, China. I enjoyed the uniqueness of the instrument he was playing. If you look closely you can see the stretched hide of a snake covering the area under his right hand.
Within the series of caves near Dunhuag, artists for ten dynasties worked to create the "Caves of a Thousand Buddhas". Images of the Buddha and Buddhist religious events were painted or sculpted from the rock of the caves. Today, the most well cared for section and open to tourists is the Mogao Grottoes.
